Tivoli Loses Touch !

Just noticed Tivoli Audio's prices have gone way up on their entire line....like 50, 60 percent or more! I paid $140. for my Pal, now it's $220 and I paid $160 for my model 2, it's now $300. My model 1 cost me $100., now the Tivoli website says call for price ? I don't even want to mention what their one piece 'Audio System' is listed at.....ok, it's $1000.

When Henry Kloss and Tom DiVesto started Tivoli in 2000, they recreated the magic of KLH and Advent by providing unique quality products at a really fair price. It's a shame that seven years after Kloss passed away, Tivoli feels they need to hike prices on the original models without any real upgades on the units themselves, and by such a large margin !

Maybe Tivoli should go back and listen to the words of Henry Kloss himself when he talked about his days at KLH...."The starting prices of the products were lower then they should be and they never went up. It was idealism, quest for volume and wanting to share fine audio for a reasonable price."

Have you also noticed they stop selling Tivoli at Target. Makes you wonder who pulled out, Tivoli or Target? Maybe Target wasn't good enough for Tivoli and they are starting to market themselves as a high-end brand, thus the price hikes and sales in high-end stores only?

I bought a Pal years ago for the wife for $99, IIRC. Tivoli's new NetWorks internet radios, starting at $599, are ridiculously overpriced. I thought my Freecom MusicPal internet radio was pricey at $149!

Even on That Auction Site, I noticed the prices of beat-up Model 1's are unacceptably high, never mind ones marked as being "new".

Now I'm kicking myself for not picking one up from Tweeter for $99 when they first came out. :gigglemad

One would think reality would set in.

Either that, or they are trying to capture a really, really upscale market based on perception. yes, their stuff is good but consider this:

I just bought one of these. Here's it's writeup on their site. Note the price.

Now, here's the blurb where I bought it. Again, note the price.

A friend tells me it's even ower now.

As soon as I read that, bells rang in my head. It's not like that's an unproven strategy. Perceived quality or the sense of being elite is one heck of a motivator. It just takes a few years to build that market reputation (deserved or not).

out of curiosity, I just sent Tivoli an email asking the reason for the price increase. If i get an answer I'll post it.

that's not a price increse.

isongbook has been out for a few years now and $400 is the original selling price from day one. It might have sold a few through their web site but apparantly, when it's sold through "real world" markets it sits on the shelves gathering dust. Yes, it's a very, very nice piece of audio jewelery, but not for $400.

I paid $100 at Christmas and don't fee ripped off. I feel that's a fair price. I'm kinda miffed that my bud got it for $50, but I stil feel I got my $$$ worth.

I think they might be reigning in their distribution channels in order to maintain an exclusivity about the brand mystique, not unike Bose has successfully done. If this is so, I would expect to see more print ads in the same magazines Bose uses.

bad time in history to start up-pricing and upscaling a product line.

Too bad to hear that Tivoli's done that.

The PAL was a great radio package... we got our daughter one when she went to college (2002) and it continues to serve her well.

I was thinking the same thing as I made my first visit to their website in months. I have two Tivoli pieces and thought I'd see if there was a third that caught my fancy. Instead I came away shocked at the prices.

Sounds like the marketing dept. at trivoli is taking a page from Bose, of overpriced table radio fame.

Looking at their website, it appears that their legacy product that started it all, the basic Model One table radio, is no longer available. Their "platinum series" version of it still seems to be, though.
