Hello Fellow AKer's. I haven't been on here in a while and can't recall if this is the proper place to post this, but figured I'd post here anyway. So, I've decided to finally go vintage and ditch my modern stereo equipment (most of it nothing too special). Went out and bought a pair of Pioneer CS-903's, yes I know... Kabuki... I like the look and the sound isn't too bad. At the end of the day, I should have two possible setups:

1) Pioneer Gear (CS-903, TX 9500II, SG 9500, SA 9500II, and PL 640), Tandberg 10X, and Hagermann Cornet II

OR

2) Pioneer Gear (CS-903, TX 9500II, SG 9500, and PL 640), Tandberg 10X, Hagermann Cornet II, and Harman Kardon HK 3490.

The only difference in all of this is the amp; Pioneer SA 9500II versus Harman Kardon HK 3490.

I'm not really sure which one to get. I'd like to have mostly Pioneer gear (silver face era), but I'd need the capabilities of a modern amp. :scratch2:

So it's vintage Pioneer receiver vs. modern H/K receiver? And this began over your ditching modern to go vintage? I perceive ambivalence here. Me? Gotta have remote control...that's just the way it is...for me. Is that your issue, as well? Anyway, you have to make up your own mind whether vintage is right for you, but it's sounding already as though the answer to that is...not really.
 
I could do without the remote. That's not important. I made my mind up. I'll get the H/K and use that for a while, then eventually get the Pioneer receiver, swap it, and see what I like.
 
Harman Kardon HK 3490 is receiver. SA-9500II is integrated amp. Makes a difference in your configuration. TX-9500 is tuner so depending on config whether you need it.
Sorry if I am pointing out obvious just not quite understanding your plan.

I decided to go vintage. Its all good.
 
Sorry for all the blab I've been spewing. I was very unsure of what I wanted to do stereo wise and was cycling through idea after idea after idea. I've been playing with solder fumes for too long haha.

So, I was planning on doing a series of old Pioneer silver-face equipment, but after some rather interesting events, managed to make a huge score.

I managed to acquire a pair of Alon 1's. Coming along with those Alon's are two pieces of Copland gear; A power amp and integrated amp.

My current intended line up:

Speakers: Alon 1's (have it)
Power Amp: Copland CTA501 (have it)
Integrated Amp: Copland CSA14 (have it)
Tuner: Pioneer TX-9500 (sending out to be serviced)
Tapedeck: Tandberg 10X (have it, but might switch back to TD 20A)
Turntable: Pioneer PL 640 (Have it, but hinking about switching to something else)
Equalizer: Pioneer SG-9500 (have it, but after reading up about the Alon's, not sure if this is necessary to have)

Now the fun part... wiring up everything.

Once again, sorry for spewing so much blab previously.

From the bit I've heard of those pieces of your puzzle I think you will like the results a lot. Let us know how it comes together.
 
So far, so good. I love the TX 9500. It's clarity is amazing and I've been able to pick up stations that I would have trouble with previous units.
