To Past And Present Nikko NR 1015 Owners.

Hi,

Just bought the Nikko NR 1015 receiver on the bay for sixty- nine bucks.
It's my first piece of Nikko gear and I've read at various sites that it has
a nice sounding tuner, but I've read nothing about how it sounds otherwise.

What can I expect overall from this receiver?

I had the little brother NR-719. It had a below average tuner reception, killer phono stage, and overall very nice sounding.

Had an 819, and liked its look and sound -- I thought it had a better than average tuner, though in my area birdies are more of a problem than lack of sensitivity.
 
I had a 1019 and a 1219 and they were both all around fine performers. I think you're going to be pleased with your 1015 and you also got it for a decent price as well.
 
ahh your the one who outbid me by a dollar! I have a 1019, and I like it. awesome unknown receiver, I wanted the 1015 and looking for a 1219. Enjoy it, they are good receivers.
 
The tuner section on a 1015 could use a filter mod. Very easy, do a search in the tuner section, lots of info. At least some de-oxit at certain points to improve reception.

You will have power to spare! It just kicks azz. I think 85 watts is conservative, probably more than that. Nice sound, clarity, separation. Not to high or harsh like some of the newer circuitry, and not to soft or mellow either. Just a nice mix of sound and detail.

It's a big heavy mutha, but built well. Careful the front is real glass, if your gonna do some cleaning, and remove the front glass, don't tighten the screws too much or it will break. I have a parts 1015 that happened to.

There is a big long list of things that you can do appearance wise and mod wise that is pretty basic and easy to spruce it up. PM me with any questions, can even scan the manuals for you if interested. YD

Wow, didn't think I'd run into you here... I'm glad you didn't go all out in your bidding - I had my heart set on that 1015. Now my Sansui 221 can go in my bedroom. Cheers.

Thanks for the post. I sure can use the help, since it's my first vintage receiver over 30 wpc and first "serious" piece of gear, I feel the need to spoil her with all the trimmings.I will definitely PM you on her arrival. Thanks again.:thmbsp:
 
Provided nothing is really wrong with it, you will enjoy it. Sometimes items on "the bay" can be hit and miss. Not always entirely accurate descriptions if you know what I mean. I hope this does not happen to you. Good luck.
