I can't seem to find this exact release on discogs, and the one that matches has a different catalog number than mine. Anyway I assume it's either an original from 1952 or a reissue of the recording. It's pretty noisy at the very beginnings of both sides, then becomes somewhat acceptably crackly for most of the lp. Sound quality is not exactly hi-fi, but neither is it poor by any means.

I was supposed to sell this one a while back but now I'm going to keep it.

I got this one below after a very positive and interesting Stereophile review several months back. It was my introduction to Gesualdo's music and it is as good as the reviewer claimed. It seems he was a very twisted fellow and it's reflected in this particular book of his madrigals:

I consider van Beinum to be one of the most underrated conductors ever!

I've noticed a pattern concerning the above, specifically many of my favorite recordings involve the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, and I also like everything I've heard by van Beinum so far.

This was among a whole bunch of records I received as gifts last year, but until tonight I hadn't noticed that side B has Schumann's Etudes, which I love. As this is an early 80s DG recording I was afraid the sound would be awful, but it's ok. The vinyl itself is generally quiet, and the sound quality is not bad, although I prefer more dynamic impact in piano recordings - oh well. Still a good record to have!
