Hartmann - Piano Works
Siegfried Mauser, piano

I've owned a rendition of Brahms Quintet in Fm Op. 34 for a while, but I guess I haven't really payed attention to it before now, what with doing work and all while I'm listening. I finally gave it a good listen, and boy, it is ghastly! I had never heard anything like that from Brahms before. I then searched for reviews of the piece and noticed descriptions such as "disturbing" and "demonic".
I listen to Brahms for completely different reasons than that. Serene, lush and concordant would be my description. What was Brahms trying to say? It reminded me thematically, somewhat of Beethoven's Ghost Trio.
