Today's find (aka - "new" speaker day!)

Well, thanks to the knowledgeable folks on here, followed by some scoping around/trying things out, I spotted these in the local CL listings and ended up taking them home - behold!



These are a pair of Advent 5012W's (aka "New" Advent Larges). I actually had the chance to check out a pair of standard Advent Larges before these, but passed on them because they needed quite a bit of TLC and I was after something more "turn-key". These are in fantastic shape with only the most minor of cosmetic nicks, and sound great!

Truthfully, I think I prefer these over the standard Larges - slightly more modern sounding, but still plenty of vintage vibe. Handles lows like a champ, with lots of rich detail in the mids, and plenty of top end clarity. These are a pretty signifcant upgrade from the Sharp rack system speakers I was using before.

Just wanted to share, and give thanks to the folks here for turning me in the right direction - feels good to have some speakers that can do my other gear some justice! .

Nice! The Advents with the soft dome are really hard to beat. Just take it easy at first, especially if those are the original woofer surrounds. (Don't be surprised if they disintegrate soon).

And just a little nit pick- those are just 5012W's. The New Large Advent still used a "fried egg" style tweeter.

Just goes to show that I seem to learn something new every day on here! (I initially thought that the switch from "egg" to "dome" tweeters marked the change from originals to "New" Advent Larges).

The woofers were actually recently refoamed (I got to spend plenty of time listening w/the grilles off at high enough volumes - everything looked/sounded good to go), so they should be just fine.

Those are great speakers, I prefer the dome tweeters over the originals too.

These 5012's do indeed have excellent bass response. My previous speakers weren't very good with lows/low mids comparatively speaking - now bass instruments are coming through loud and clear with precision, and zero boominess/mud.

Enjoy! I have a pair and prefer them to AR2ax that I've heard and they displaced my pair of ADS L-520 ( tough call, but it came down to bass and some sentimental value )
Tough to beat the cosmetics of a bull-nose cabinet. Honestly, I dig the look of that baffle speaker without a grill too.
