Tonar 623DE stylus for Shure M91ED cartridge

Good morning everyone,

I'm looking to replace the stylus for a Shure M91ED cartridge that I'm using with a Sansui SR-212 turntable. From my research, the Tonar 623DE is a entry level elliptical stylus at a very reasonable $50-$65 price range based on what I'm finding on the bayer and amazon.

That said, I'd like to get opinions on whether this is a good stylus and what if anyone has any experience with it.

I don't have direct experience of that stylus but Tonar styli generally have a good reputation, as do Jico. The Japanese-made styli from LP Gear are also well-liked and may well come from Jico.

Very pleased with the 623DE Tonar. I had first purchased the Durpower at half the price (also on Amazon), but it failed miserably the low frequency tracking test on my Stereo Review test record, so I returned it. The Tonar passed the same test with flying colors.

The Tonar/Shure M91ED combo approaches the quality of sound I got with a V15III I owned back in the day.

I have a few Tonar styli on an M75, M91 and M95. You have to run the tracking force around 2g with them but they sound really excellent. Hard to beat for the money.

I have a Tonar for my M91. Bonded elliptical. I replaced it with the Swiss nude elliptical for $27. Much better than the Tonar. Tracks at 1.5-1.7 grams. The Tonar was ok. The Swiss nude gives you that clear as crystal detailed sound missing from the Tonar.
