I recently purchased a MCS 6601 (Technics SL-1900 clone) and in the process of maintaining it. My main issue is that the tonearm doesn't automatically go towards the record. I have to manually move the tonearm over to the record, however it auto-returns just fine. It also auto-returns when it reaches the end of a record. I'm wondering if re-greasing the tonearm mechanisms will help. What do you suggest? Also I'm new to vinyl and in the process of learning all of this.
Update: So after some more digging it looks like I didn't know the difference between a fully automatic TT, and a semi-automatic TT, which is what I have. Question rescinded. On the plus side, I was able to clean out old grease and re-lubricate everything, so it wasn't a complete waste.
