Tone Mode control effectiveness?

I was interested in the the Marantz Tone Mode control and was wonder how effective the Tone Mode control switch is? Can you hear an audible difference by adjusting the frequency turnover point of the bass and treble using the Tone Mode control or is this just a nice feature, but not very effective.

I have a 2285 and yes I can tell the difference in the settings. I'm sure that it has alot to do with the speakers that you are using.
