Tonearm Cable Question...

I have a rebuilt Pioneer PL-516 TT, and has the original tonearm cable still. Wanted to know if there's an aftermarket cable I can use to replace it with?
Assuming I would have to splice the existing tonearm connector to the new cable, is it even worth changing it out?

I am even tempted to modify the Turntable with female RCA & ground connector on the Plinth itself. Has anyone tried this, and can you show me a picture of your work?

Thanks!
Eric

If you have connectivity, I would avoid changing the tone arm cables, unless you are a soldering wizard and have tiny little fingers. When you install female RCA connectors to a plinth, you add another less than optimal connection in the signal chain. Convenient, but not an improvement signal wise.

I have a Jelco/Sumiko tonearm that arrived damaged on my AR ES-1. It has since been repaired with Cardas wiring which is now installed on my AR XA that is due to arrive this week.

If you're not familiar with tonearm wires and you never soldered, I would recommend getting someone who is knowledgeable to do the work for you. It is an added expense, but it will be worth having it done right.

Hope this helps. :music:
