Tonearm mass? Kenwood KD-3100

Sorry for the newb question... How do I find out if the tonearm is high, mid, or low mass? https://www.vinylengine.com/library/kenwood/kd-3100.shtml

I'm considering the Otrofon OM5E ($80 CAD) or Audio-Technica AT95E ($60 CAD) cartridges but wanted to check they were the right compliance for the turntable (is this right?).

I've seen a few people recommend the Otrofon because you can upgrade the stylus to OM10 later on. Anyone agree or disagree with that?

FYI

The stylus of the Audio Technica AT 95E can also be upgraded too. :D
 
Like many TTs of that vintage, I'd consider the arm 0n the 3100 to be medium mass. I don't think you'd have a problem with either the Ortofon or AT.

I own a 4100, which has a virtually identical arm, and I've had no problem with a variety of carts including AT, Empire and others. Can't say I'm a big fan of that Ortofon, though.

Thanks for the info! Why do you prefer the AT over that Ortofon?
 
In general, I prefer most ATs to most Ortofons. I've spent quite a bit of time listening to an OM10, and found it not very thrilling. The 20 or 40 help some, but then you're talking considerably more money.

Even the least expensive ATs sound good to me. I'm currently using an AT15E on my Kenwood, which of course is much further up the food chain.

If finances permit, you might consider the 100E, which is a big step up over the 95. Discontinued, but readily available.

As always, just my opinion, YMMV.
