Tonearm Support Material

Hi,
Hope your TT is spinning well today.

I have an issue with my KD-5070. The tonearm support has a material on top. This is a softer material I assume is meant to cushion the arm lifting and lowering.

After decades it is worn and not viable. I have looked for replacement without any real replacements. Does anyone know what the origianl, or replacement, material was and the thickness was (measuring the current is not reliable, imho).

Thanks in advance.

The material is probably an adhesive-backed, rubber-like compound. I don’t know the reason it is used but think it is to provide a higher friction surface on the lift lever to prevent the anti skate force from pulling the tonearm toward the rest when no other forces are acting on the arm. Allows cuing to lift and drop the needle into the same groove.

The thickness is not too critical. Limits are so thin the arm doesn’t lift high enough, but doubt this happens and a thick limit of raising the arm too high.

Lots of rubber sheet materials available, many adhesive backed or it can be installed with the correct glue for the materials.
