Tonearm Wires

Ok folks, I did a stupid thing this morning. I was changing the cartridge on my Pro-Ject XPression 1.2 and broke one of the tonearm wires. Looks like I need to rewire it. Where the wire broke, it left it too short to enable repair. So, any of ya'll know a supplier for tonearm wire sets. I haven't been able to locate any so far with my searching.

Now wait a minute here, I did the very same thing and was told by a reliable scource that if you break a wire :yikes: that the turntable was more or less junk after that because the headshell wires HAVE to match the wires that run through the tonearm unless you are prepared to rewire the tonearm. Now that was what I was told by someone who is supposed to be so very much more knowledgeable about these things. He came right out and told me to buy a new turntable :eek:

Now I can't really just run out and buy a new turntable and I have another Pioneer headshell that came with wires and also more wires that are a tad heavier. I also know that wires can be readily had on ebay. I would post a link for you but I was bitched at for posting links to ebay products because they only belong in the Dollars and Sense forum. I ain't figured that out yet as I wasn't selling anything just pointing something out but oh well, it's always something. But anyway, check out the bay, wires run from $5.00 to $10.00

Sounds like BS to me. Was this same person someone wanting to sell you a new table?

Total BS. People switch out headshells all the time, all with different wire.
 
so make some new headshell leads then? I dont see the problem here at all. Also im going to check out some mouse wire and see what gauge it is and if it looks quality. Im in need of rewiring a tonearm myself.

are you kidding, for $500 it's not worth the aggrevation trying to solder those itty bitty wires. and for another $5 you can get those magical gold endz!!

Is it just the headshell leads that are broken? If so, you can get new headshell leads from Cardas, or basic Audio-Technica ones from the Needle Doctor.
 
I have gotten some from this guy. I rewired my Grado arm with his stuff and have been very pleased.

Better buy the tools that go with it. I've worked with that wire and it's very difficult to strip without breaking one of the strands in the process. Takes practice. I had to modify my best wire stripper to make it because the finest gauge it went to was only 24. Once you have it though, it's easy to solder and the insulation doesn't shrink back.

If you're prone to breaking tonearm leads in the 1st place I recommend a Litz wire of the typre found here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page18.htm (2/3 down the page). The stuff is as flexible as thread and far more durable because of it. The silk wrap means the stripping is done without tools - so no broken leads. The only fussy part is the bundles have to be braided together because they can't be spiralled like plastic coated wires.

I ordered the wire suggested by Spartanmanor, and am comfortable I am up to rewiring the tonearm. Just have to be careful and take my time. Will let ya'll know how it turns out.
