Took a road trip for some gear

Since I had Friday off, I capitalized on a couple tanks of fuel. The seller was the original owner and purchased the gear in he believes was 1990. I have been trying to get an already attempted repaired MX1000 working and I may still finish it but this one came along and I couldn't resist.

I haven't cleaned it up, just removed the cover, I taped up the end of the screwdriver to avoid marking up the screws as they have never been removed. The owner took very good care of the gear and didn't use it much. The top left corner has a light scuff but not a huge issue.

We also settled on the tuner and the tape deck....:thmbsp: The tuner has light marks on the cover but the rest of it and the deck is clean.

I haven't hooked the amp up to the CX1000 preamp yet but I did swap the B&K 200.2 amp for the MX and I will say the MX is much more rich in sound. Both are powerful amps, the B&K is very detailed but initial impressions are the Yamaha has more full sound and sounds very good...I'll let it run for awhile and tweak it.

As for the amp, what's the best setting for 6 ohm speakers...4 or 8, or is that just for the meters?

What about setting the inputs? I assume just don't crank them up but curious about setting them with a DMM.

Just for the meters. Guess I'd go with 4Ω.

I picked up some some of the same pieces a few months ago. The TX-1000 is a very good tuner. I hope you enjoy them!

I assume I could use any FM antenna but what antenna works well with this tuner, does it need a booster?

As for the MX1000, how do you set the input level to get an even balance? I'm guessing with a DMM but is there any compromise if I turn the inputs all the way up or near all the way up, is there a max value I should look for either on the scale of 1-10 on the face plate or a set voltage from the speaker terminals?

I use a simple dipole, it works well in my area. A signal booster shouldn't be necessary.

Maybe someone has a better trick for setting the levels (I assume you're referring to the left/right level pots on the front), I just set them dead middle and they sound even enough.
