Toronto area used turntable dealer recommendations?

Any of the Canadian members have recommendations for where to buy a used turntable, specifically a Thorens TD 160 ? I bought one a few days ago on consignment at a record store , and it was a complete disaster on many fronts. The shaft on the motor was so bent that the headshell was shaking , among other issues, so I took it right back.
Any know/recommend a place to find a decent one ?

Not in Toronto, but The Record Centre in Ottawa usually has a dozen or so used turntables for sale, and frequently has at least one TD-160. Have had good experiences with this dealer standing behind his product.
 
In TO you could try Ring Audio on Carlaw or Vintage Audio and Props on Queen at Rocesvalles
also have a look on Canukaudiomart

Kijiji, carefully inspect and try before you buy.

Canuckaudiomart is good too but often top dollar.
 
Toronto should have a bunch of places or people who can be trusted to sell you a decent turntable. I wouldn't resort to eBay or anything requiring shipping for that matter.

Specifically a TD-160 might take a while to find of course but there are many other good turntables.

Yeah, the Web site is hopeless, but as of Friday, they had 2 TD-160s in the store for sale. A phone call will determine whether one is in stock. They have been running about $350-400 Canadian, which isn't a bad price.
 
I've had more than a half dozen turntables purchased on eBay shipped without issue, don't let the naysayers keep the largest market out of your reach.

The most recent a Technics SL 1200MKII for a young friend just getting started. Below are some pictures, the table was purchased for $290, absolutely pristine, absolutely perfect when "delivered" purchased through eBay, try getting a deal like this locally. Your options go up exponentially if you include eBay, complete buyer protection if anything does go wrong anyway so absolutely no risk involved.

Take a close look at this table, it's like new, even the dust cover is perfect, also included a new, if inexpensive stylus for the Shure cartridge installed.

That is a decent price for that table if available.
 
Other tables I've purchased through eBay the past several yrs, all arrived intact. Thorens TD166MKII, Mitsubishi DP-EC8, Kenwood KD770D, Kenwood KD500, and there are more but these are just a few to give examples. All were under $350, some less than $250, one even less than $200, all had cartridges installed worth more than the asking price. The Kenwood KD500 also had a botique arm worth more than the asking price. I could have removed the cartridge and arm, sold all three separately on eBay and tripled my money if I was so inclined.

As you can see, all are pristine and spinning beautiful music.

You're not kidding,that's not bad at all for a TD-160.Here in QC,they are usually going for five hundred and up for some pretty tatty examples.

I'd really like to see this place,but I haven't been doing too many road trips since the price of gas skyrocketed this summer.Mind you,they are close to Princess Auto,Busy Bee Tools,plus I can hit The Continental Deli at the Byward Market...hmmm:idea:

If you buy enough TD-160s and sell them at the QC going rate, it will pay for your gas and lunch in the Byward Market! :-)
 
The biggest problem with buying from the (e)bay is the exchange, customs and shipping unless it's in Canada.

Won't help the OP but I just put a link to an auction with 2 TD160's near Smith Falls, in Dollars and Sense
