Toshiba sa-300 help needed

So for the past couple months or so i've been intrigued by a neat little toshiba sa-300 receiver. When I got it the fuses were blown, output transistors shot, etc. After replacing these parts the receiver suddenly came back to life, or so I thought. The tape input seems to work fine, but everything else (aux,phono,am,fm) is absolutely dead.

The toshiba is hooked up to a variac which is set to about 20V AC just for testing purposes to make sure it doesn't blow up.

Any ideas on this one? I'm still pretty new to repairs so i'm not the best at finding problems in some units. I've been looking through the schematics but have had no luck.

If anyone has pics of the inside of theirs that would be great. Maybe a module or something is in backwards on this one. Someone else has messed with it in the past but they also failed at repairs.

Well after doing some measurements it seems that the little meter on my home made variac is a little bit off... After cranking the voltage up to 60 v AC the right channel now works through the aux. Excellent.

Now to figure out the left. Tr01 seems to be having some trouble out of the emitter so that may very well be the problem.

I'll keep you posted.
 
Hey progress.. really build that dbt in conjunct with your variac .. I've been considering a variac and advice is they both work together on recent post so a good idea. dead short on ps and if good you can bring up v's as 'inquiry'. custom build anyway. so incorp both for unison or separate. :D
 
After replacing tro1 and tr02 the receiver is working great and at full power. The tuner, aux, and phono all have power now and sound great.

So if anyone is having problems out of their sa-300, check tr01 and tr02 before doing anything else!

I'll look into the dbt thread and see what people have to say. Never heard of using both a variac and dbt together but it sounds interesting.
