Toshiba SA-7150 Receiver

Hello!
I'm new to the forum, but have been an audio buff since the seventies. My first serious purchase was a Toshiba SA-775 receiver in '78. It was passed along to a friend so I could buy a Sanyo Plus separates system, but I always loved the look , feel & performance of that Toshiba. A few weeks ago I came across a clean SA-775 at a garage sale, $15.00. Need less to say, I snapped it up. All that was wrong was a missing toggle knob (bought one a on eBay) & a couple of the source indicator lights are out. Boy, I really like the sound of this thing, but it got me hungry for the top TOTL SA-7150. Any chance one of you prolific collectors has one available @ a reasonable amount? Thanks!

As far as the Toshiba's go, I have to agree, they were very nice sounding. My first really nice vintage receiver was a SA-775 and I can't say anything bad about it considering everything. It's gotta be the biggest 75wpc receiver around, though.

Those Toshibas were some sleepers, weren't they? I sold - but rarely serviced - that line up for a number of years. They offered excellent value compared to the Marantz/Pioneer/Sansui of their day but their dealer network wasn't as well developed so they tend to be more rare since less were likely sold.

Glad you found another to replace your memories. This happened to me a few years back with a McIntosh MX-110, one of which was stolen back in 1974. My step-mother-in-law gave me one :D that I didn't even realize she owned!

Its nice when things come full circle.

Cheers,

David

The big Toshiba is one of my favorites. True definition of "monster receiver". You have to keep your eyes open, they show up on that site every now and then and I picked up a couple locally too. If you do end up with a SA 7150, make sure to send me the serial number, I'm putting together a database and sorta have the production dates figured out.

If I had a spare, I'd sell you one of mine!

Don't rub it in! :D

That is a beautiful machine!

4.5 y.o. thread but that is OK. The SA-7150 broke new ground by being one of the first to have a digital tuner. It was very likely the first Monster Receiver to have one. According to a salesman friend, the manufacturer's price was high and so the retail profit margin was low. As a result, they didn't push them and only filled orders when specifically asked.
