Total amateur here with questions about my Ohm Model L speakers and Lafayette receiver

Hi, I just bought a set of Ohm model L speakers and an running them through a Lafayette LR-3500 receiver. I guess I want to know if this is a compatible pairing? Am I going to do any damage? Is there a better (affordable) receiver I should look at. Previously I was using KEF 1032 reference speakers and just replaced with the Ohms.

I am pretty amateur and don’t really understand what I am doing, assistance (and maybe a beginner’s guide to this stuff) would be helpful.

There are both obective and subjective variables involved in matching speakers with amplifiers.

Address the objective variables first. After that, it becomes a matter of personal preference.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to convert an excel file to jpeg. But, there is one very easy way to post it. Simply take a photo of the screen with your phone and post that. Just a suggestion.

That would provide none of the file's functionality, and would require about 20 screen shots. I'm pretty familiar with the issues, and am working on converting the entire document, including its extensive calculations, to HTML...at which point I will put it online.

You would have to overdrive them to cause damage, and that's not very likely with that setup. If it starts to sound distorted turn it down. Compatability (unless we're talking lower wattage tube amps) is in the ear of the beholder, if you like them then they're compatible.

The ohm l was and is very popular. They sound good and have a nice low end. If your surrounds are in good shape you're likely set. If they start to tear then stop using them and replace the foams, it's an easy job. The capacitor in the crossover would benefit from being replaced but it's far from critical units one of the tweeters stops working on your.

The Lafayette, LR-3500, was a decent receiver. From what I remember in servicing them, they were prone to current creep in the resting current of the final amplifiers. The adjustable pots that they used were as cheap as you could get. Of course, since the parts in the LR-3500 are now at least 50 years old, that would be a questionable part.

Zip it, or change it to a usable extension with a note to change it to excel extension, or just add a usable extension like xxxxx.xls.jpg with a note to drop the jpg.
