Town Car from Car Service

I had an appointment this morning and requested a car from a car service I've used here in NY for a number of years. I don't use them often, but hadn't seen a Lincoln Town Car in a while.

Today, a Town Car showed up to pick me up.

I have to say I still like that platform for a car service. It rode well, was comfortable and just did everything you'd expect of a car for that purpose. Typically I end up in a CUV of some sort. They're usually somewhat cramped and just don't provide the experience you get with a big sedan like the Town Car.

I suppose that's one of the reasons why the Panther platform was in production for 33 years. My father had Mercury Grand Marquis company cars through the transition from the previous platform to three of the Panther platform cars. The first year, as you can imagine, had some issues. That one used to stall on a long fast curve like highway exit ramps, although that's about all I recall about it.

I'm sure most of the Town Cars are past their service life in the car services here. It was something of a treat to get to ride in one again.

I rode with a cab driver in a Town Car who told me they would usually replace the transmission after 250,000 miles and then put 250,000 more on the car! Not scientific but I have heard good things about the durability of the platform. When you manufacture a car with mostly the same hardware for thirty years, you have time to get the bugs out!

a few years ago I rented a car because my grandmother passed and I wanted to go to the funeral; my options at the time were a 2WD F-150 or my company car with bald tires (Wheels sucks; they wouldn't replace the tires until they were legally worn out, they had like 3-4mm of tread left so no go.) It was February, and I was crossing the Appalachians. I had sold my Porsche 944 which had great winter tires on it because reasons. So, I ended up with a Grand Ma, and it was great. Set the cruise at 80 and kicked back and enjoyed. I could see myself getting one as a tow car or even a daily when I get older.
