Trade MC250 SS for Dynaco st70 Tubes?

Hello all,

I know some of you will be bias in one way or another regarding SS vs Tube, but thought I'd throw this out to the AudioKarma world to gather some thoughts.

A trade: Mcintosh MC250 for Dynaco st70
Both units are cosmetically 9/10 with zero rust or pitting
Both units are in its original state and brought up to spec
The ST70 has the EL34 tubes, org chassis, transformers and cage
Basically, both units can be everyday drivers and ready to go without any services required.
I understand that ST70 was produced a plentiful, but harder to come across without the ware and pitting as many have encountered. On the other hand, the MC250 was a shorter production and certainly produces a warm (dare I say?) a tube like sound. Although rated at 50wpc, mine defiantly pushes close to 70pc

So...Opinions?

I own a 2100 and an ST70.
From a presentation point of view we're apples to apples here.
Both are entirely rebuilt. The st70 new original design boards . 1% film. PP coupling caps throughout .
I have made Dave's modifications (a la the base line st70 thread).
The 2100 has seen a similar overhaul.
Both are excellent performers.
The mcs could probably drive a more difficult load more easily.
It really could come down to personal preference (synergy with particular speakers)
Also for some older tube preamps the higher input impedance of the 70 might make it a better match.

Oh PS even if both are working properly but mostly (all?) Original.
They're both due for some maintenance .
Keeping the 70 in tubes in the long haul could prove to be more expensive.

Thanks NJ. I am thinking of running the 70 with my c28 or 7T Marantz Pre. Both Solid state, however the 7t cold be a very cool and interesting match. I have AR3a's to run with the tube amp, but I feel those speakers can get hungry and require more power. I have run my previous ST35 amp with my c28 using the AR's. I was thinking of getting a pair of Heresy HBR's, but that's another bag of hammers and feel they may not be as versatile outside of using it with a tube amp. Of course, I may be off on all this...
