Trading in opinions (JBL L-19)

Hey (first post here!)

So a local collector picked up my listing for my beloved JBL L19s (sounds great, with some scratches on the exterior), always loved their dynamic sound profile. Listed for equivalent of 280 USD roughly. On the phone, he asked for any specific models I'm interested in as he has a large collection of speakers!

I'm overwhelmed by the choice, anything you guys could recommend, looking to make some money to upgrade my turntable cartridge (100-150 USD, roughly). He said he'd be willing to put some money on top of giving away a small bookshelf. And, I want something a bit smaller, but could also come close to the dynamic sound my L19s have (Or is this pushing it?). His desperateness also made me think if I should keep it, but it's normal I guess, JBL L19s are hard to come by where I'm from.

I mostly listen to vinyl with a technics turntable and through a Sansui au-555a. Any inputs or recommendations are appreciated.

Welcome to AK! I use Audio Technica VM530EN cartridges when I fix turntables because they are easily upgradable with different styli, and they perform better than the 95 series. The 95 series seem to radiate sound from the cartridge which is just wasted sound energy. The 500 series do not resonate as much and have far better separation. The lower end Grado cartridges are okay, but the height dimensions are sometimes a limiting factor if the tonearm has no height adjustment. In my opinion, the Grado seem to be More sensitive to external magnetic fields like a transformer, and that can be an issue with some turntable models. Good luck and welcome again. Regards JG
