Transcriptor Hydraulic Reference turntable ?

Hey folks, a neighbor just offered this table to me but wants for me to go over and have a look before he tells me how much.. I know that they’re more of a “form over function” table - but I do see it as art and already have a few good sounding tables.

My questions are mostly for people who’ve had them. How badly should I want this? How good (or bad..) can they sound? Parts availability?
I’ve asked about this in Dollars & Sense so if you’d like to comment, that would be great. I’ll be checking it out this afternoon.

Well - figured out that it’s not a Hydraulic.. Apparently, it’s a “Saturn” but I thought the price seemed fair so.. another table I really didn’t need, came home with me.. And a couple tonearms, an SME 3009 of some flavor and a Mayware Formula IV.. :rolleyes:
 
The tonearms are a real coup - everyone knows about SME, but the Mayware Formula IVs are excellent tonearms. They have variable mass, but the later models had thicker arms and were better suited to moderate and low compliance cartridges - the original JH and the early Maywares were aimed at very high compliance cartridges (though oddly, because they are damped unipivots, they were a good choice for Deccas also). Not everyone likes unipivots, but I love them.

The Mayware is one of the oft found arms on the Kenwood KD-500, along with the Infinity Black Widow, and Grace G-707. Just one of the reasons buying one of these old Kennys can be a huge bargain.

I've always been intrigued by Mayware and other unipivots like Graham, never owned one but now have a zero bearing:D

I did have a Robin back in 2004, and it's a long story why I never was able to use it, it was not a unipivot though.
