Transcriptor Skeleton: discussion

I just realized that for the longest time I have wrongfully mistaken that turntable with an Oracle Delphi...:stupid: no wonder that when I saw the Delphi, I was wondering where did the funky looking platter went!!!!

Anyway, does anyone know how this turntable sound?

Is it all about the looks? How would it actually compare to a Delphi?

It sure is a looker, though...

Thanks for your input.

When they were in production they were the cat's meow for looks. We sold them but found them to be somewhat fragile and could actually fall apart when trying to move it. Soundwise it was on par somewhere between a Thorens TD160 and 125. When I tested it in my home system I found that the all glass construction as to the sides and top seemed to give an edge. Seemed that it was too reflective of vibrations. We could dampen it noticably just by draping some cloth over the glass.

I loved the looks and it seemed to be just right in the glow of a nice McIntosh system. I oredered one for myself but a customer saw it and wanted one and as they were somewhat scarce so he got mine and I never ordered another for myself.

I assume you have a chance to get one and recommend going for it. I understand parts are available, I think the son of the original company is supporting the Transcriptors line.

I would love to have a Transcriptors just to sit on a pier in the middle of the room for staring purposes. I wouldn't even bother to play anything on it...just look at it.

Transcriptor turntables returned to production in 2000 and in fact were a AK sponsor for a while. And as Brian said above, they support the original line.

Therein lies the problem.... I could actually get one for about $1250CDN but I'm "kind of" at crossroads right now...

I have to decide if I'm going to spend 300+ on an AT150MLX for my Systemdek IIX so that the 440MLa can go on the KD-550's MicroSeiki arm and pass on the Skeleton, or postpone buying a new cart and getting a custom dustcover for the 550 and go for the Transcriptor?

In other words, is it worth delaying all the rest?

Also, can the Skeleton be operated out of the glass enclosure?

Transcriptors Turntables

Hi All

Have had a right carry on with paypal, but all sorted now after 3 months. Carry a full range of parts for all the models my late father designed, so if you need any help then let me know.

Regards

Michael

I own a Skeleton, I love it, very cool.
I had one back in the day, and used it out of the glass case. You just must leave it mounted to the base.

Yeah, cool looking table...in fact, we have a Michell Hydraulic Reference, which I believe is for all extents and purposes the same table, at my part-time job that we'll be going through for the original owner...man, that thing needs some work!

He might be much better off just buying a new Gyro....
