transistor substitute question

I am searching for help to guide me in finding good subs for many transistors in my amplifier. I will look them up on the web only to find that part unavailable at least on Mouser. Please discuss how you guys research and where best to order subs from. I am working on a marantz 300dc amplifier. I appreciate all responses.

#1) only change what's not working
#2) only buy from reputable and trusted suppliers
#3) there are very few options for current production of through hole parts that are fit, form and functional equivalents, especially Japanese pinout parts.
#4) any substitute takes the risk of not working properly in the circuit that was designed using a part with different specifications. In some cases it requires, analysis, characterization, testing to re-qualify a design change. Not doing so takes on possible and associated risks.
From a EE's perspective.
You have way more leway subing resistors and capacitors vs semiconductors.
 
The right channel has a slight bit of distortion while playing music and was putting together a parts list to rebuild it. The amplifier boards have a JFET 2sk109 1 per channel and I was curious as how to test it. Thanks in advance
