Tri Amping 5 Way Speakers

I own a pair of Infinity QLSs that don't sound that good anymore. I think all the drivers are working, however. Anyway, I'm willing to do some work and buy some stuff. I want to tri amp these with Mc MC2200s. Everyone says I need to actively crossover and disconnect the speaker passive crossovers. It looks like from the attached diagram that the speakers are "5 way". I have a Behringer active digital crossover that can give me 3 frequency ranges but not five. Someone please confirm that that means that I only disconnect some of the passive crossovers in the speakers. Thanks.

When bi-amping speakers, you often use regular passive crossovers with no active crossover in between the amps and the speakers. You could do the same, or even combine it with an active crossover if you already have one. Knock yourself out :)

I suppose you could pent-amp them. :D 5 way? Wow, even horns don't need that many ranges. I think you need to determine where the crossover points are. I would tend to think that putting the top three on one amp and the bottom two each on their own. Line level crossover of course. If you are going to do to the expense of tri-amping you might as well do it right.

For the the amp(s) that is (are) driving multiple ranges you will need to leave a portion of the crossover intact. That is the part that divides up those ranges. This could be a complex project but certainly doable.

My experience would say "confirmed" although I don't know what exactly you would have to do.

I have 2-way biamped for a couple years (with active). I acquired a pair of Heresy's and for kicks, wanted to put them on top of my large bass horns.

I removed my top horn, set the Heresy's on top. The Heresy is a 3-way speaker with a passive inside it.

I set it on top of my bass horn, KEPT the active connected to the bass horn and crossed it at 80hz. The other leg from my active went to the other amp and then to the input of the Heresy.

The passive inside the Heresy handled the speaker itself however, it was only being fed 80hz on upward.

I had to fiddle around a bit to level match the Heresy to the bass bin but other than that, it worked like a charm and sounded great.
