Trio/Kenwood ATC Series '69-'71

ka3002?

I'm getting really into the Kenwood ATC Series components released between 1969 and 1971.

I know that these were designed to directly compete with the original Sony ES series ('65-'72ish) and I think that, even more than those Sonys, this line is flying way under the radar. Currently, nice TOTL examples of the Kenwood ATC Series units don't bring more than $100-150, with the exception of the scopes, which sell for $200-400. Cheap thrills!

I believe the ATC Series nomenclature, short for Audio Technical Components, was used only in Japan, but I could be wrong.

More so than the early Sony ES line, information on the ATC Series is scarce. I'd love to hear from anybody well-versed in this gear, or who might have sold it originally.

Partial list of Kenwood/Trio models in this line includes:

KA-6000 integrated amp
KA-4000 integrated amp
KA-2600 integrated amp
KA-7002 integrated amp
KA-5002 integrated amp
KM-8002 power amp
KT-7000 tuner
KT-5000 tuner
KT-3000 tuner
KT-7001 tuner
KC-6060 scope
KC-6060A scope
KF-8011 de-noiser
KA-8044 Quadrix amp
KN-7044 Quadrixer

Additionally, there were several Trio models that probably never had Kenwood equivalents, including:

M-6000 power amp
KM-4002 power amp
KT-8001 tuner
KC-6050 VU meter
F-6000 electronic crossover
KN-6644 Quadrixer
MF-5010 electronic crossover
MA-5100 electronic crossover with 4-channel amp

That's a new one on me! Added to the master list!

Probably about 15wpc.

I use my KF-8011 as a switch box for four turntables. Works great for that and looks good IMO. I have also found out the A|V rca cables work great for the connection between the box and the phono input, use the video as a ground cable. Also used my reverb units as fancy looking switch boxes for tape decks. Since they were all free or low cost it was cheaper than going out and buying switch boxes.

There's a black KT-7001 on eBay right now. Was this a finish that Kenwood offered, or an aftermarket paint job? If it was factory, which other models could be had in black?

I don't hate it...

Never seen before in black - but it looks authentically. On the other hand the pic quality does not allow to verify it without any doubts.

I remember seeing a black scope, either the KC-6060 or KC-6060A, in black on eBay a while back, but it was explicitly being sold as a one-off custom job out of somebody's studio.

I agree, the KT-7001 in the auction looks factory.
