Troubleshooting a Kenwood RA-56 reverb amp

I've just bought a faulty RA-56. I gave it 14v DC and the center lamp lit up. Seems like a good start but can't get any action out of any of the other lamps. Not sure if I need to supply more voltage, louder music, or something else Some questions below

  1. What internal voltage does it run at? I want to bypass the mains transformer while I troubleshoot it
  2. How loud does the sound input need to be to make the display light up? Would an iPod be enough? Again, this is for troubleshooting
  3. Only the middle lamp is lighting up currently, but I think that's due to at least one (known) blown lamp. Guessing they're wired in series
Cheers
