Troubleshooting popping noise through speakers

Hi all,

So i keep hearing this popping sound coming from my speakers when watching tv. It happens A TON when airplaying to my sony tv from my macbook. It happens frequently but less when watching apps on my sony tv and I think it even happens when listening to my bluesound node (but much MUCH less than both the others). Its hard to tell if my turntable does it too or not because the sound is similar to a dust or static pop when listening to vinyl.

assuming it isn’t happening with the turntable: could internet be the factor here? I pay for AT&T fiber so I’m supposed to have super fast speeds and I think I did at first but now my AT&T app says I have the top speeds, yet my phone doesn’t have the same connection strength it did when I first had my internet installed and it seems much slower than it used to - specifically on my phone, laptop speeds aren’t the same as they used to be but they’re closer than my phone. Tv I can’t notice a difference as far as speed goes because I’ve only been using built in tv apps since my PlayStation broke a couple months ago.

I tried 3 different SPDIF cables to my tv and DAC and none of them made a difference. Also just bought a new preamp and got rid of a tube preamp that was giving me this issue + others.

my setup is now:
- golden ear T7’s daisy chained to the forcefield 3 sub which is then powered by my schiit vidar. That goes to my brand new schiit Freya S (solid state version). I then have the bifrost 2 DAC and the Schiit mani for my digital and analogue sources.

The easiest thing to try would be to remove the subwoofer from the system. If that doesn't do it, do you have another amp or receiver you can substitute in temporarily to see if the problem is the amp?
 
Hard to say with all that stuff in the mix.

Best thing might be to take things down to the very bare essence and evaluate from there. And I mean very basic, not just what you think you can't live without in a combination.

Anything that can operate standalone should be checked/tried standalone. If no symptom, then add one thing and re-evaluate. If no symptom, add one more thing, and so on.

You can bounce around with a bunch of variables and maybe get lucky or apply a more methodical, systematic approach.

I think its definitely the internet. I tried taking my sub out of the chain - that didnt work. havent gotten to try a different receiver but had a breakthrough just now when I tried connecting a SUPER long Ethernet cable to my tv and run it into the shared room the modem is in.

After going into the tv settings menu and turning built in wifi off, i noticed the static/clipping sound happen a ton when scrolling through the wifi options quickly. Once the settings were changed to the wired internet connection, the static/clipping stopped for the most part.

using the ethernet cable isnt really practical in our house. I might try and run it along the walls but even then I dont think my roommate will be thrilled with this cable running throughout the house. Would paying for a wifi booster or upgrading the internet with AT&T help? or would it make the noises worse because the stronger signal may interfere and cause the static noise to happen more often?

I suspect a Wifi booster won't help. You could try powerline ethernet or MOCA instead of WiFi or wired, although there's no guarantee that either one won't interfere with your system in some other way.
