Trusonic.............imposters???

Don't know how many of you are familiar with Trusonic speakers, but the raw drivers go for pretty decent bucks on ebay.
I bought a pair of speakers at a thrift for $24.00, labeled Trusonic model JR-100M. They looked pretty crappy, but then again, the drivers on ebay didn't look all that great from the front either.
I pulled out one of the tweeters and the back of the magnets are surrounded in styrofoam. The kind of styrofoam used to pack things in only painted green. Very, very cheap looking drivers.
The other odd thing is, the one pair of drivers I saw on Ebay had a California manufacturer address and the pair I bought has an address of somewher like Ohio, or back east somewhere.
Did another company steal the name?
Did someone counterfiet these?
Are these cheap looking speakers that are really worth a fortune?
Anyone ever hear of using styrofoam on the back (magnet) of drivers?

I have run across Trusonics over the years, but not too frequently. All I know about them is that the name was affiliated with Stephens at one point though I think they were their own company at one point, possibly in the Midwest(Indiana?).

Never seen the styrofoam, but I have a pair of 15"ers that have the most massive cast baskets I have ever seen. I'll have to start checking eBay for them. It's the best source of info I've seen for stuff like this.

It may be that the name was shuttled around at various times and various manufacturers. It's a pretty catchy name.....

According to the Lansing Heritage website, Robert Stephens who was later to found the Stephens-trusonic company worked in 1933 to help design the Shearer-MGM speaker an alternative to WE/RCA.

And I might like to have a pair of these Stephens Trusonics from 1956 with aluminum fronts.

I think the ones I found may be a far cry from the pics I saw of "Stephens" Trusonic speakers.
I did notice the pics I saw of the Stephens were labeled Tru-sonics, not Trusonics like the ones I found.
But even so............... Styrofoam???

Ok....The nice ones are spelled Tru-Sonic and these are spelled Trusonic.
Is that legal?
hmmmm.....I guess I should design some speakers out of cardboard, build them with the cheapest overseas components that almost look like drivers and call them JB-L :D

Robert Stephens died in the early 50's and this appeared to be the beginning of a slow decline for the Stephens Tru-Sonic company until it disappeared completely in the 1960's. It would appear that some other firm subsequently picked up the Tru-Sonic name since I have seen a few recent speakers with this trade name that bore no relation to the original company's products.
