Long time listener, first time caller. I am looking for a Marantz amp/receiver to make a new setup with my dad's old Denon DP-60L. The turntable has been in storage since his passing years ago and I'm getting it back this week. I have a friend selling a Marantz 2235 B (for $300) and another friend selling a Marantz 1060 (for $250). This set up is solely for listening to records, not the radio, or a tape deck... nothing else! Both have been serviced and in perfect working order, the 1060 has the wood case, the 2235 B does not. Here is what I (think I) know. The 1060 has a phono preamp built in, it's 30 watts per, and something about it not being as safe for your speakers since the capacitors are coupled (whatever the hell that means) ?? The Marantz 2235 B is very common, 35 watts per, has a lot of features I don't need, and for some reason is not as highly regarded as the 2230... WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET?!?! WHICH ONE IS THE BETTER BANG FOR THE BUCK! ANY REASON TO AVOID EITHER MODEL? Hugs and Kisses... Johnny
