I just found this forum on Reddit and was wondering if this community can help somehow get back my speaker system back to life.
I have this old 4.1 Promedia that is having some static noise issues. Every time I connect the satellite speakers to the subwoofer I get this loud static noise from sub. I am not able to tell if the control pods of the main satellite speaker is busted or the sub.
So far what I have done is I took apart the control pod and opened it up to inspect it to check if there is something burnt and found this grey rusted thing in the back on the board (as seen in the last two images below). Would you know if this looks okay to you because I have never this rust like thing before in any of the boards in any electronic circuit board. It could be some glue that dried off as the speakers is quite old.

If these look alright to you guys, any suggestions what should be my next steps in troubleshooting this to identify the root cause of the issue? I found this replacement part but I need to be sure first if the control pod is the issue before I order this: Control Pod Replacement
