Trying to hook up 2 subs to a 80's era Onkyo

This is what I am trying to do. I have an Onkyo TX 88 that was made late 80's, hence no sub outs. I want to hook two Polk PSW 10 subs, one left and one right channel running to 2 Polk Monitor 40's. My question is will the subs line levels work with only the right or left channel hooked up? I've looked up the PSW 10 manual and it doesn't give me any useful info to my question. If anyone has tried this please enlighten me with your wisdom. Thanks

I would consider, which I have thought about but not tried yet ... Tape out left to a Y cable to sub / tape out right to a Y cable to sub

+1:yes: Thinking two mono subs with one channel input each with no need of a Y cable?

^ I was just informed that you would need to ajust the sub vol each time you change the main vol as the tape out does not follow vol changes ... still a thought

The subs will probably work fine with a single channel connected to each via the speaker-level inputs. Many of us -- including me -- have done this with the high-level (RCA) inputs. But I've never tried it with the speaker-level inputs.

Thanks for all the input. Always wondered what 2 subs with some fairly detailed speakers would sound like in a 2 channel setup.
