Noob here, in case it's not self-evident.

I'm repairing a SL1400Mk2. While it's open, I am thinking about soldering in some modern value/quality interconnects. Lots of discussion here around BJC LC-1 as great low capacitance ICs. I wasn't able to find a comment about soldered-in connections. Do people buy a set of LC-1s and cut off one set of RCA plugs, or is there a cable sold with only one end of RCAs installed? Alternatively, are LC-1s directional, causing it to matter which end you cut off?

I'm guessing that more modern TTs have RCA plugs at the back, so you would use an intact interconnect set, but I don't have that option. Other recommendations? Thx!

Well hell, that was too easy... thank you! However, the results are only populated by rather generic offerings. I'm not dumb enough to say "I don't like these because they don't cost enough" but It is important that if I make the effort, they should be an improvement over the OEM cables. Any additional observations; e.g., "ANYTHING would be an improvement over OEM." ;)
 
Unless you are superman and have super hearing, you are not gonna notice a difference. I have been using cheap interconnects for years with no problems whatsoever.

Appreciate the inputs (NPI)! With that in mind, there is nothing visibly wrong with the OEM cables. They are probably just as good as any 'cheap' aftermarket interconnects, so you just saved me some money and effort.
 
Mogami Neglex microphone wire is relatively inexpensive & an upgrade from generic "stuff".
Mine are Mogami Neglex 2534. I'm sure its not the only solution.
Whether you hear a difference from what you have depends on lots of factors.

For "hardwired" cables I'd consider Belden 1505F. It's not too thick, is nicely flexible, stranded rather than solid center conductor, and pretty low capacitance. BJC likely would make you a pair terminated at one end only.
 
I've installed RCA jacks on the back of my tables. Then I can use what ever type/brand/length I wish. Easy to do if you can run a small drill and a soldering iron.
 
I also think installing RCA jacks is the way to go.

Blue Jeans cable is good. I prefer RAM Electronics though.
 
Because of the low signal levels a turntable puts out (unless it contains a preamp) aren't there certain characteristics TT cables should have as opposed to "regular" interconnects?
Or is my old timers disease acting up again?
 
generally low capacitance, but thats a cartridge loading thing. Cartridges want to work into some amount of capacitance which varies depending on what cartridge you have. The phono stage has some amount of capacitance. The difference is the max you can have in your cables. Since its easier to add than take away, usually you want the cables to be as low as practical, and you can add more with a Y splitter and loading plugs if needed.
 
Moving coil cartridges are generally immune to changes in capacitive load. For them it's impedance load. Whereas 47K Ohms is pretty much standard for moving magnet and moving iron cartridges LOMC cartridges usually like less than 1K Ohms.
 
Consider making your own interconnects. Use quality wire and connectors. Don’t buy into silver plated, kryptonite infused, mumbo-jumbo audiophile nonsense. You will probably not notice any real improvement over the cheap OEM cables, unless you have RFI or other external noise issues. High quality components will last longer and be more durable than the OEM cables.
