TT to go with Boston Acoustics A200 and Luxman L-410

Greetings AK, I'm not new to vinyl but I'm new to this forum. I've run a Marantz 1070 for several years but I came into possession of mint clean L-410 and I love the detailed soundstage with the similar era A200 speakers with the old SEAS tweeter. My weak link is my TT I believe, a 1982 Akai AP-d210 like new but not in the same league. Obviously being into early 80s equipment looks aren't a priority, I'm wondering what type of Turntable might compliment the rest of my system; ie detailed balanced sound with maybe a touch bass to help the a200

Thanks for the reply blue shadow, I think it'd be fun to have a full auto I've only ever had semi. I have a stock cart on the akai but I have an ATVM95E on the way, should improve the sound for now but it's a light tt with a plastic tone arm. I'd like to keep my eyes open for something great in the 300$ range. I'm in the Vancouver area.

Thanks for the good info, Sony TTs tend to be rare around here. Can a well running cheaper turntable limit the sound detail from a high end cartridge? Late 60s Thorens tables seem to be the sought ones so it can't be an electronic thing. Just how important is it to have a "high end" table compared to the amp speakers and cartridge?

Very nice system! I have a pair of BA 150s, also with Seas tweets (and an early pair of BA 70s with Seas tweets). Fantastic speakers. To be honest your turntable probably isn't the limiting factor, especially with the VM95E. I suspect that your kit will sound just fine with that cartridge/stylus.

Give us all a shout back when you get the VM95E installed.

The Nice thing about the VM cartridge is that you can easily and relativity affordably scale up to 'high end' by getting something like the VM95ML micro linear stylus, which is arguably the best value in carts today!

Thanks, I just see semi manual tables priced around 1000$ Canadian and I wonder if there's a flawed value system in place on these. I'll get back to you guys when the new cartridge stylus and headshell shows up, I'm very excited to track the difference! Again my 1982 akai table is simple but has very smooth semi automatic workings for something in storage for 30 years. Original owner gave me the table and cabinet for free as he was in the process of moving.

I might be able to get a deal on a mint yamy YP-B4 fully automatic... anyone familiar with these? Looks like beautiful finished wood In a mid 70s style. Not much for Technics high end stuff around currently but stuff is posted daily in this area.

Well guys, I cancelled the order on the atvm95e as it was delayed until June; instead I brought my turntable to Classic Sound in Chilliwack. The tech (after looking down his nose in disgust at the akai haha this guy sells TTs for several grand) installed an Ortofon 2m red cart. He didn't recommend spending more than 150$ on the table but rather to save for another one. I just got home and put on a 180g Sonata Arctica record and I'm blown away by the difference already. The elliptical stylus is pulling WAY more highs and lows, and details also. The SEAS tweeters were asleep before, now they're singing. The room is actually filling with the music more now as well. I'm very pleased.
