Tu-555

I got my first Sansui score on Friday in a TU-555.

The round dial and green lights are so cool, I sat it on the t.v. just so I could look at it :D

I am now looking for the integrated amp that went with this series for a system at my office. The Au-222 seems to match closely and the Au-555a looks like a great little integrated to run the Polk audio RT10's I have.

Is there a particular model I should hold out or search for?

I can't wait to hook this up and enjoy that classic Sansui sound :music:

With the earlier Sansui's it's never as easy as matching AU and TU numbers. For some reason the match for the TU-555 seems to be the AU-222.

As you see it's 11.5" wide - same as the TU-555. The AU-555 is quite a bit wider...

whoa, the 222 is a match for sure!

I know some people have this combo OR a close match, how does it sound???

Now I wonder if should step up a few notches in the AU- line or keep looking for the 222.

Depends on if you want the neat visual match of 2 units the same width. The more powerful AU's from this series are wider.

I haven't heard one from this early but I have an AU-555a (from the next series) which has the same warm early Sansui sound that they say is closer to valve sound than later transistor based integrateds.

I'm not really concerned with the size difference but want that wonderful Sansui sound.

I will be using this daily in my small office with the TU-555 and the small yet efficient Polk Rt10's.

Does anyone know if the TU-555 will need an external FM antenna for a decent signal?

Look for AU-555 which is a step up

Hi Stene,

Is the AU-777 the TOL for this series?

- Neil.
No not at all.
AU-111 famous Tube amp
AU-777 was the very first solid state integrated amp Sansui manufactured.
Next was AU-777A. Matching tuner TU-777
AU-222/555/999 Matching tuner TU-555/999
AU-555A/666/888 Matching tuner TU-666/888

The TU-555 is a wonderful tuner! I have one but a previous owner etched a serial number right into the face and, of course, this was not mentioned on the auction page. :tears:

Tu 555

I use the AU 222/TU 555 in my shop, love the combo, perfect match in size and appearance.
For the AU 555 go to the TU 666, again a perfect match in appearance.
If your speakers are efficient then it's the AU 222 for the office.

Thats just WRONG :thumbsdn:

The ebay stuff worries & frustrated me. I missed out on a TU-666 when the price went beyond $135.00

So, I'm on the hunt! Everything is setup in my office awaiting the final peice of the puzzle. Thanks for all the help, I'll post pics when I'm done!
