Tu-9900 case painted to match rest of gear

Being the owner of a Sansui BA-3000, CA-3000, and TU-9900, I have often wondered why the TU-9900 case wasn't painted to match the pre and amp? Anyone know why? This tuner does go with these components AFAIK.:scratch2: I was thinking of having the tuner case painted to match. Does anyone know the official name of the red color on the amp, and pre? Thinking of having an auto paint shop paint it. What do you think? Thanks for any info, opinions!

I believe you are correct and it just occurred to me that Sansui did not make a "Definition" series tuner. Would love a tuner in that beautiful raspberry paint scheme.

Take the cover or piece of equiptment with the color you want to match to a autobody paint supply house. They have a electronic camera that is linked to thousands of paint formulas. It called a "color eye'' or "prophet" .It takes a picture of the paint and compares it to all the formulas in there data base, picking the closest match. Its usually pretty accurate. That will get you a paint code for the bodyshop.

You may also want to go to the bodyshop that you want to do the painting and ask them to have it color eyed and have them match the paint for you.

I have had the paint shop match the paint for a AU 717, and put it in a rattle can. Enough to do 4 or 5 covers. About $20.00 for the spray can.

The series seems incomplete. The Tu-9900 matches the Au-9900 and Au-11000 (A versions also) and the CA-2000/BA-2000. The CA-3000 and BA-3000 match the Au-20000 but there is no matching tuner and the CA-5000 is missing both a matching preamp and matching tuner.

Thanks for the info and great ideas. Will painting the tuner case hurt the value? I don't plan on ever selling my Sansui separates but who knows what the future holds.

If it's done professionally by a shop that paints classic cars it shouldn't be a problem (it has to be lacquer like the original paint). If you get a spray can from Lowes then it will hurt the value.

..I would'nt Change the Original Colour-scheme , because it will hurt the Value (..if You want my opinion...)

...Professional Series :
AU 99oo
AU 11ooo
CA 2ooo
BA 2ooo
TU 99oo

...Definition Series :
AU 20ooo
CA 3ooo
BA 3ooo
BA 5ooo

...Greetz from Germany.....

If it is in an "original" Sansui color it won't hurt the value of this tuner. Prices are almost very volatile on this model.
The covering of my TU-9900 is chrome-plated. Done by a professional.
Nor depreciation, neither appreciation :D

Any chance of seeing a pic of your chrome plated cover?
