My tu9900 developed a hum in the last few months. im guessing it needs an alignment and maybe a couple caps replaced. Is there any reputable techs around rochester ny that can tackle this for me?
Not too much there for an alignment.
Not something that you want to learn on but I would start by recapping the power supply. It certainly would not hurt. I count 8 ecaps. Size up the ecaps and go shopping at Mouser or Digikey. ~$25. Nichicon UPW will do the job. Does not hurt to bump up the capacity go to the next larger size. Lots of info and people on this site to learn how to solder and change a couple of ecaps.
Even if you do find a tech, it will save you lots if you can supply parts and info on the unit. Very hard to find someone that has this specific model experience.
Get the service manual from hifiengine
Might try member hionfi that runs a vintage audio business in upstate NY, believe they have a qualified tech there and may be able to service this tuner.
