Hi all,

When I take the usual trip to the weekend Flea Market's, I don't usually see
much, But today pay dirt, I found in a pile of tubes a bunch of 12AX7's.
went thru them all and took all the AX's he had, the gentlemen had other's
but they weren't marked so I left them, wish I knew what they were is there
a way to tell without any markings?? But here's what I got,

1/ 7025 RCA USA
4/ Sonotone made in West Germany with the Diamond on the bottom
(Tele's)??
1/ 7025 Sylvania's, USA
1/ 7025 Silvertone, Holland
2/ 12AX7 GE/Great Britain
3/ 12AX7's GE's USA
2/ 7025 GE/USA these two are in my Scott LK48 now and sound
really good. So it was a good day today in Tubeland.:yes::thmbsp:

You can narrow it down, but it's hard to differentiate physically between a 12AX7 and a 12AU7 without a tester. Bottle size, internal plate structure, and other internal factors will also help you determine what's what.

Me likey 7025s! Good for you.

In general, black plates are considered more desirable than gray plates ( typically older) along with square, horseshoe or D shaped getters. The problem I'm having with mystery blackplate tubes lately is that many of them have been testing weak. I don't run into too many Euro tubes with black plates, but you will find the older Euros with non-round/halo shaped getters. I have recently found some non Mullard British tubes (Brimar) with blackplates. Some of our AK brethren are now in possession of some of these, and appear to be quite happy with them......

That's a fine grip o' tubes!:thmbsp: There is an odds and ends shop close to where I live, with a boatload of partially unmarked tubes... 2 hours of searching and 1 12ax7. I like your scenario better. I sat there so long people started to think I worked there..

Thanks mike, How's your Amp.

Nice work Tube!
Will be curious to know what combo of tubes sounds the best to you.
Please let us know:yes::thmbsp:

So far I only put in the two GE 7025's in the Scott Phono section and it's really
quiet with a Clarity and width of soundstage I haven't heard from these speakers
(Celestion 100's) in a long time.

Did you test any of these tubes? I have bags of 12AX7 that i have accumulated, many with weak triodes and/or shorts...just sayin.

I wish my "Sonotone" 12ax7's had diamonds on the bottom. They have short grey plates and a halo getter. I'm having better luck rolling other 12ax7's in my tiny collection.

Tube News,
I but in the GE's Great Britain 12AX7's, Wow really nice smooth sound
real nice bass, I'll leave it on for a while and see if it gets better.

Hi all,
Further tube update, I put in the 4 Sonotone tubes in my Fisher X100-B
amp today, I think my speaker's grew higher and wider.
