Tube FAQ Sticky

MikE

Color Me Gone
As is apparent by there absence, I don't much care for "header posts" or "sticky's". Of course, Kam has recently taken to posting various "sticky's" on all the forums, but they're only periodic. Seeing some of the questions asked, and having witnessed the same trend on other forums I've been considering posting a "FAQ" sticky in tubes. Is there anything specific you would like or suggest I include? I have no outline at this point but I think it would like to include some fairly basic information as well as more advanced concepts / data. I'm open to suggestions...

MikE,
I think that putting a FAQ would be a very worthwhile project for you, but do not see it as much of a benifit for a beguinner as they would not need a FAQ if they knew what questions to ask.
FAQs can not go into the detail to answer questions of anyone that knows what question to ask.
I am running in circles.
I suggest a stickey that deals with how to ask questions and gives a basic vocabulary so that the questions are understandable.

Mike,

Perhaps a list of weblinks and book references on where to get information, including good basic info on tubes, tube circuits, and specifically audio circuits. I can recommend the older (40's through 60's) Radio Amateur Handbooks highly. Also the RCA receiving tube manuals (RC-14, RC-25, RC-28 are the ones I have), all had excellent tutorials in them about tube theory and tube circuits including sample amplifier and other device circuits. Charts were given for the resistor capacitor values for many of the common audio tubes so one could slap together working resistance coupled amplifier circuits.

Well...

I hear what you're saying, and while that too is a gripe of mine, I wasn't looking (or hoping) for a tutorial on web polling. Perhaps I'll just include something about including system context and listener preference when posing questions for component, system or device suggestions. I was thinking more along the lines of a glossery of terms; PP vs SET, biasing, mysterious tube glow (good / bad), SS vs valve watts, tube anatomy and so forth.

Well it seems you and I are in basic agreement MikE. Terms and simple explanations that allow the new tube entusiast to know how to ask questions,ie; what info is needed to get a responce that will help them.
I have tried to used FAQs in other forums but either it was assumed that you knew enough to understand the tech talk or was too vague to really help.

A FAQ would be nice on the terminology and abbreviations.
Do you have any idea how long it took me to figure out what a SET was?;)
Can you imagine what my mind I was conjuring up?:)
