Tube Pre-Amp Question

Hi Guys, recently I have an Accuphase P-350 Power Amp and yesterday I tried it with a Marantz 7t SS preamp and it sounded very nice with a pair of Ar-3a at 210 per-channel, but since I have 3 tubes system running at home I prefer the tube sound much better. This is my question about a tube preamp, right now I'm interested in a McIntosh C-20 but I think is going to go too high for my budget, meanwhile my friend is offering a Conrad Johnson PV-12 for a nice price but I don't know jack about this type of pre-amps. How does it sound? It doesn't have the bass and treble controls that I'm familiar with. How this affects the sound? So I'm undecided as to what to do. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The answer is simple.........since it's your friend that is "offering" the PV-12, demo it in YOUR system and let YOUR ears decide....see, simple !

Thanks for your simple solution. We plugged the CJ-12 and it sounded very nice to my ears. But since most of my audio listening is on vinyl I played a lot of LP's and with the ones with poor bass or treble I couldn't increase it for my listening taste. But with my wife blessings and thanks to uncle Sam Tax Return I won the MAC C-20 I was keeping an eye at that auction site. I expect I will receive it by next week. I will keep you guys post it on how it will sound with the Accuphase SS amp.
