the phono preamp im using currently has all sovtek tubes. id like to get the tubes replaced for under $400 if at all possible. i'm pretty sure the tubes that are in there are the original ones from the factory.

i really dont know much about tubes at all. what im looking for is 8x 6922's and 2x 6sn7's.

i dont know that the sovtek's, with their age, sound as they should. are the sovtek's anygood at all? should i stick with that brand or does my budget allow for better tubes?

Antique Electronics Supply has all of those tubes, USA made new old stock. You can retube your preamp with hiqh quality tubes for around $300.00. I personally not too fond of Sovtek tubes. Better than Chinese made, but I prefer to use USA or European tubes. Check them out. :music:

that looks like a great place to get tubes for my sound city 120 and bassman 70. but when i look up the 6922 all im seeing is electro harmonix (sovtek makes those i think?) and jj. everything else is labeled as "Brand picking not available for special pricing."

Those are probably the NOS tubes. Give them a call first...they are very helpful and knowledgeable. Meanwhile I will check some private suppliers I know. If I have any luck I will put you in touch with each other.

Also check ECC88, which is the European designation of the 6922, and 6dj8...another designation of the same tube.

any opinions on tube manufacturers for the 6922/ecc88/6dj8? the sovtek's dont sound bad, but dont honestly do much for me - id like to attribute that to tube age, but i really dont know. ive heard mullard and telefunken are good, but they are also very expensive from what ive seen. im looking for something middle of the road that wont put me in the poor house.
