Tube socket type???

Trying to identify a 9 pin tube socket for use with some RCA MI-12398 (step-up) trannies.

There are of course 9 pins, spaced concentrically apart at 40 degrees, with a guide pin that is nearly identical to an octal (6550 power tube) type guide pin.

If anyone knows specifically what type scocket this is, and better yet, if you know a scource to locate some of these, please respond.

Did you guys know that loctals were invented for car radios and other "rough" areas where normal tubes could fall out from vibration etc.. That's what an old car radio restorer told me once anyway. I traded him loctals for octals.

Thanks Bugle,

What I'm looking for has a guide slot between pins 1 and 9 that is not present on that one. Other than that it looks correct dimension-wise.

Thank you again though.

Hiya,

Hmmm .. maybe a picture of the actual socket would help with IDing ???

It's an everyday, ordinary 9-pn octal. Commonly used for low-Z mike transformers. Not to be confused with the 11, 12, and oh, almost forgot, 8-pin ones. I think my stock has gotten pretty low (though I have lots of 8, 11, 12 pin ones...). I'll look.

Leeds Radio website says they have them in stock for $15, as does Triode Electronics.

Plug: Amphenol 86-CP9, socket 78S9 (either needs snap ring and mounting plate for chassis mounting)

And Surplus Sales of Nebraska has chassis mount sockets: http://www.surplussales.com/tube-sockets/TubeSkts-3.html

Tom,

Thanks for the Surplus Sales link. Their (TUA) 77MIP-9S socket looks like an ideal match.

Redboy: take a look.

Frannie; on closer inspection you were right! Thanks!

Gotta love his site!

As Tom points out, they are known by the moronic "9 pin octal" name.

The Amphenol number for this is 77-MIP-9 and they were also commonly used in organs.

They show up fairly regularly on Ebay, currently Pacific TV http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-77-MIP-9-AMPHENOL-9-PIN-OCTAL-TUBE-SOCKET-/230598603592 has some for $10.
