Tung Sol KT120 Output Tubes?

Anyone tried the KT120 in their MC275 or MC75 or MC60? Wondering what you think of the sound. Supposedly, can pump out another 15+wpc with this larger tube.

ron-c - Can these amps handle the additional 300mA in their grid circuits? Safe to run? Thanks.

Could be a good tube but it needs to be used in an amp designed for it. It is NOT a drop in replacement for KT88/6550 type tubes in McIntosh amps.

Better check out the filament current requirements, too. Not the same.

Looks like a nice tube but I'd want more than one vendor to supply me if I were a manufacturer - lock in is not a good place to be with parts sources.

Thanks. I meant filament and not grid in my OP. And, will wait for someone else to be the guinea pig on this. I'll have to be content with rolling small tubes and KT-88/6550s. Which is not a bad thing.

Tung Sol KT120/KT150

Anyone got any updates? I am wondering if KT 120/150s would be possible in MC75s and if so how they sound. Any help would be great.
 
Just found some other threads about the MC275 and KT120/KT150 not being compatible. Can I assume the same for MC75s?
 
You might consider the KT90...however I do not know if the bias will be correct. As well, the KT90 may have higher THD compared to the KT88.

Just don't, they aren't designed to use those tube, and all you are doing is stressing the circuit and may damage the amplifier, and for no real benefit...

With all due respect, whats wrong with the tubes the manufacturer has specified?? Surely you can understand this is the way to get the best and most reliable performance from the amp......
 
I am using a Rogue Audio Stereo 100. That amp is designed specifically for the KT120. I wouldn't use that tube in an amplifier not designed for it just because you want to squeeze another few watts out.
