Turntable belt replacement

New Member
Son just moved back to college. He's got a Rotel 4400 turntable and
apparently, in the move the belt came off. He does not know how to
pull the platter off to reinstall the belt. He said it feels like it "caught
on thing."

Anyone? Help?

Thanks,

They just get stuck after being on there a while. You have pull hard, rap on the spindle with your knuckles, push on the spindle with a block of wood, various techniques like that.

Tap on the spindle lightly while pulling the platter upwards. It's quite normal for the platter to get just a little stuck over time.

take of slipmat, place thumbs on the center axle an grip the platter with both hands thru the holes.. and - take it off.
if really stuck... (I never had that...but may be rotten stuck after 30 years in a wet basement) place anything as a bar on the center axle to give your thumbs more angle.

Now the belt?

Great...success!!! The platter has been removed.

Thinking it may be pretty straight forward attaching the belt, it isn't.

Seems to be lots of places for it to go around to create the tension
needed. Any ideas?

Thanks to those that have responded. The kid is close to having
it working again.

Here you got me. Usually the belt goes around the pulley (sometimes called the capstan) and the platter and that's about it. You may have to weave it slightly around the speed adjustment device that drops the belt to a different spot on the pulley for 45 rpm (presuming this TT has one).

put the belt around the platter inside, keep it up with a finger thru one of the holes tur around and put on. Turn the platter to the pulley with the segment you keep the belt up and put it around the pulley. spin it clockwise, the belt settles.

It will be quite clear when it's in the right place. There's a recessed area on the capstan that's not much wider than the belt.
