Turntable For A Dynavector Part Duex DP80 or TTS8000?

OK the Amazon Referenz debacle has finally been put to rest. Beautiful plinth, platter, bearing, and what not. But the motor proved to be problematic.

Time for the second iteration to give this a go again. I have located a Sony TTS8000 in a Resinamic plinth. Working on getting it shipped here, as its in HK. So this deal may not go through, we will know more in a day or so. Table and plinth are in beautiful shape, so its enticing.

If I did not do the TTS8000 then I had been thinking about a Denon DP80, as I have had positive experiences with the DP75. I think I found a DP80 with a drive unit in excellent condition, and it comes with a Denon plinth, which I am on the fence about with how they are constructed. There are a couple of options, one has an Audiocraft and the other had a Denon, but neither one is really going to be useful to me since I am going to put a Dynavector DV505 on this table.

Anyone have thoughts about the TTS8000 and DP80? Or thoughts on the plinths that Denon produced?

When I went about building my end game table I assembled it around a DP80. If you do end up with one of these make sure to remember to take the two piece platter apart and check the condition of the isolating foam pads. On mine they were crumbling into dust. (edit: fully restored per ad was apparently open to interpretation, just the electronics as it turns out) Replacing them was noticeable.

That's a great arm you will be using. For me this was trickiest part of my project. After much deliberation selected a Reed 3P in 12" cocobolo trim.

Finally the plinth. The Reed ended up chewing up the entire remainder of the budget I had set aside for the project, and then some. Fortunately I located a Denon DK110 plinth in Japan asking for only a couple hundred. Figured this could at least get me started, with a plan to upgrade later. But now that I have it I have zero intention of replacing it. A real Japanese battleship. Massive and solid.

If your TTS8000 deal works out I imagine this will prove a fine option as well.

Very much a fan of the Denon DD family and the DP 75 and above are very hard to outperform…..

Much like @Legrace and you, was not overtly impressed with the Denon plinth and being a woodworker, had planned on building a custom plinth. However, when originally put to use the only modification(s) was to put new isolation feet on it and sit it on a thick platform.

So far the front runner is going to be a Denon DP80 and possibly a DP75. If I did the DP80 it comes in the Denon DK300 plinth, and that one looks to be pretty well made. This is the one I am considering, although I don't know the tone arm packaged with it.

There is another one of these tables with an Audiocraft AC3000 attached in the same plinth and its $400 more. I might see if they will swap arms and I pay the additional monies as that arm is a good buy even though I don't need it for this project.

The other option is a DP75 in a VPI plinth. I have owned that combination before, and to be honest the plinth is pretty primitive. Its redeeming feature is that massive top plate. The springs are problematic and no way to tune them. But its an attractive combo, but does not have an arm board. Its drilled for the 401 arm, but the mounting base to the Dynavector DV505 should cover that hole.

Now if I did buy a DP80 this is my end goal of table. Perhaps not the electrical modifications the person has made, but the plinth is the appearance I want to go for. I suppose I can reuse the DK300 plinth and put another Denon table in there for resale with the less expensive arm if I go that way. But this way the DK300 plinth can be a stand in and allow me to play the table while one like this is built.

Regarding the TTS8000 I did find some information that is interesting. I have seen this from more than one source.

"I own two TTS 8000's and the Sideways Movement of the Spindle in the housing is known to me.
When the Speed is measured on a Stand Alone Strobe, the fluctuation in speed is seen and a eccentric rotation is being produced.
Further Investigation has shown that there is also unwanted movement on the Platters Centre Bush to Spindle contact.
When this is present it is not only a record ward that should be of a concern, think of the plate spinner and a plate not given a rotation.
These are issues that can be addressed and in the UK are being addressed for some TTS-8000 Owners and this same support has recently been offered to German Nationality TTS-8000 owners who have not been in denial of the condition.
When a Platter Spindle on a TTS-8000 is removed from the Housing a Scribe has been witnessed engraved into the interference fitted ball at the Spindles Base.
More Grinding to be audibly noticed and another part in need of being serviced.
All that said, the TTS-8000 has been a great TT for me it has made me be fully aware of the pitfalls of buying Vintage, and the measures required to overcome the discoveries being made.
It is because of this that I requested a support from a Engineer and the design to resolve the defects and work produced is being requested by others, as a result of this endevour."

This is making me shy away from purchasing the TTS8000 that is available.

From what I understand the 300 was Denon's TOTL single armboard plinth model. Believe that is a Denon arm on there as well.
