Turntable Interconnect Wisdom

Found an old Technics Sl-qd33 in a consignment shop for almost nothing and cleaned, recapped, put a cartridge on it and its a beauty in that old Technics DD kinda way.

The unit has F rca jacks on the rear whereas all my others have had the outputs hardwired. No interconnects came with the table.

Ive got at least a dozen rca-rca interconnects i could use but reading not all interconnects are the same. Imagine???? Possibly some discussions on this subject before?

Am I looking for a TT interconnect or just a good (my cables are better) cable. Run is 3ft, cartridge is Grado Green 4 P-mount if that maters.

This is just a system in my den, not the real one.

Try what you got, should be fine!

In general, you want to keep it short (3' fine) & low capacitance. Too much capacitance & your frequency response may shift.
However, ......." Unlike traditional moving magnet (MM) cartridges that require specific low-capacitance cabling (typically 100–200 pF) to avoid shifting the high-frequency response, Grado's moving iron design features a very low inductance of 50 mH."

Very low & pretty unique, which means you ain't that sensitive, try what you got, should be fine, consider low cap cables (e.g., Blue Jeans LC-2) if you don't like the sound.

Much obliged MrWood.

Ive got a set of Morrows RCAs someplace and will give them a shot. I did look at the Blue Jeans but will check these 1st.

Pretty slim pickings on new P-Mounts these days. Hadn't even noticed it needed one until I got home. Kind of a nostalgic feeling there.

Thanks again!

Take the interconnects, set the DMM to capacitance. Measure from inner pin to outer on the opposite side of the cable (divide by length, per foot or meter), that'll tell you. Re-cabled an old Dual, bought 4 pairs of cheapo cables at the thrift, one measured lower than the expensive cables (blue jean sorry) online, sounds fantastic.

Haj,

What kind of # am I looking for? What would be considered high? Low? Which is better?

Thanks so much,

Dave
