Turntable just stopped spinning

my technics SL-QX300 TT stopped spinning all of a sudden. i played one side of a record, turned it over, and now the platter doesn't move at all. it powers on and the cueing mechanism functions. did the motor just die or is there something else wrong?

Hm. A suddenly-dead quartz-controlled DD model. :scratch2:

Could be a motor winding. Could be anything in the control circuitry like a blown transistor. Could be a servo head that developed an open circuit. Could be a busted switch.

now i'm home from work (was busy for the first 'indy record store day') and i tried to get it to work again. by pushing harder on the 'start' button, it does start turning, but after the arm lifts and begins moving towards the platter, it stops turning and the arm goes back down onto its rest thing.

Every part seems to work, just not completely together. Could it be mechanical? Wish I could be of more help.

Sounds like a dirty switch. When you get a chance, open it up and spray Deoxit on the innards of the switches and controls.
