Turntable Oil Question

Hi. I recently bought a Technics SL1800 MkII. Love this table. Listening to the Silencers album Rock and Roll Enforcers right now.

The manual says to apply a drop of oil to the spindle every 2000 hours.

Is the Technics oil still available? Can I use any high quality machine oil? Or should I stick to a TT specific oil?

Just wanted to say that I use a high grade sewing machine oil for most of my oiling needs. Also would like to mention that you have good taste in records, not many people I know are familiar with The Silencers, Rock N Roll Enforcers was/is a great record.
 
Any high quality light machine oil is fine. Sewing machine oil, hair clipper oil, etc will do you just fine if you can't get hold of the original Technics stuff.
 
I use the proper Technics oil! But.....I'm sure many others will have their own ways and opinions as to which oil to use. :) :) :)
 
Along the same lines of the original question. I have a Pioneer Linear Tracking turntable and wonder what oil/lube should be used for the tonearm rail that it slides on. When I got it it was gunked and sticking with the old original stuff. I have cleaned that all off and put 3-in-One oil on it, but it doesn't seem to be that good and I have even had to re-apply it after a few months. Suggestions?
 
I use Slick 50 synthetic motor oil. I've been using this stuff for a long time. You don't need a lot either.

I don't know about your particular application, but a lot of fine sliding parts like that are not supposed to be lubricated with anything like oil. It just attracts more dust and gums up the works. You might try cleaning things off and applying a dry film type lube ir even nothing at all.
 
If its got a graphite guide rod, it just wants to be clean and dry. If its steel, a very very light wipe with mineral oil is all it wants. 3in1 has some vegetable oil in it, so it dries and gets gummy over time.

My secret is out....AAARGH. No more ebay sales of small bottles of oil!

Actually, most of the hobby oils are nothing more than this. I do repackage the Mobile 1 into my needle point applicator bottles...however, I don't sell them :-)
 
I found Busch vacuum pump oil vm-100 at the storage. It looks like a fine machine oil. According to spec it's totally mineral base. I'm curious, is it suitable for spindle?
