Turntable Smackdown! Which one wins? KD-3070

A Technics SL 23 versus a Kenwood KD-3070 ...

assuming both are in great shape for their age, and the cost is the same, which is the better table?

Also: can you advise me on the build of the KD - what is the material of the deck? is it nice and sturdy?

I'm betting on the Kenwood. Never heard both side by side. But the Technics is really low-end for them, and belt drives have never been their forte. I personally wouldn't even bother with the SL-23. But that's just MY opinion.

I own an SL-23(now in the hands of a friend), and I can tell you right now the Kenwood would be far better. The SL-23 is an okay beginner's table, better than plastic crap, but not really that high up on the audio ladder. I dumped it for a Dual CS 508 which sounded much better, now the Dual has been replaced by a Kenwood KD-500. I think the midrange Kenwood models like the KD-3070 also had a version of the granitey composite base used on the KD-500. I imagine the Kenwood to be a much better turntable than the SL-23 just based on the heavier plinth.
