Turntable Thorens motor mounting hardware

Has anyone found the best aftermarket hardware combo for mounting Thorens motors? I have motor with a riveted coupling nut. And a motor without anything. I’d like to try them both out and see which one performs the best.
It’s for a td-165. But I imagine it would be the same for a td-14x, td-15x or a td-16x?

Edit mid read the numbers so this statement is probably moot—the TD 124, there’s lots of motor mount options for it, unless I’m misunderstanding?

Have also noticed that many times gems of information on that site is not listed under a heading, he updates his builds and reviews over the years, so it might be buried in observations or similar; still no guarantee you’ll find what your looking for, but a great resource nonetheless:thumbsup:

Some of the early TD-165 models were mounted with round motors while the majority came out the factory with the more familiar triangular variant. There's rumors and stories about Thorens facing a temporary shortage of triangular motors at the time, or about them getting stuck with stock pile of undesired round motors. Whatever the reason is, it seems most with the round motors ended up in the US. I'm not sure what the 'riveted coupling nut' might be. I'm not getting an image in my head. The triangular motors on the TD-16X variants mount to the deck with 3 screws, with the further to the back being a taller safety post keeping the platter from knocking directly on the motor pulley, and the inner most, closest to the platter, being the motor azimuth adjustment screw that's mounted on a spring.

I have both the round and triangle. Riveted coupling nut is round spacer that’s also riveted to the triangle motor so the motor doesn’t get mounted too close to the board, and only need a short screws.
The round board doesn’t have anything. So I would need a long screw to reach down to the motor. Does that make sense?
I found the info on the hardware for the triangle motor, but not for the round on. Looks like there’s screws, washers, nuts and one spring. Be nice to have an idea of what kind works best for all 4 of those.

Never seen one. I own a dozen and have had scores under the bench. It must be an after-market thing that I'm not aware of. It makes me wonder if this solution addresses a real problem or just creates new ones.
 
Alright, gotcha. This isn't a coupling nut, it's the 3 motor mounts and they're an integral part of the triangular Socenboz motor. They are indeed riveted into each of the three triangle 'ears'. The gear in the link is only required once you resort to drilling the original rivets to service the motor (which should be a rare, nearly unheard of, event on it's own). It upgrades nothing. It simply replaces the original riveted motor mounts, which are junk once drilled out. There used to be another good quality kit sold by an ebay seller from Israel, but it has zero effect on performance. I don't remember out the top of my head how the round motors mount and if the distance to the motor ledge carrying the mounting holes is identical to the triangular motor - so not really sure if this kit is as good for the round motor. I wouldn't bother with it anyway. There's nothing in it to improve performance. Actually, every-time somebody comes up with a plan to outsmart the original Swiss/German engineers, they come up with a new fu*&up, so I'd just leave it alone.
 
We’ve definitely hit a tangent. I have round motor. That doesn’t have the motor mounts. That’s the hardware I’m looking for. Has nuts, bolts, 2 spacers, and a spring for azimuth adjustment. Looking for hardware specs on those. Thanks
 
Those mounts look pretty much the same size to me.

Well, you know where to get it for less than 20 bucks. That kit you've linked to, appears to be able to sustain about 3/16" of loose threading of the mounts on the stub screws to compensate for any missing height - should you need it. Also, the seller mentions he can customize that kit per 'machine' so talk to him.
 
I asked on a Thorens Facebook group. And they recommended some M3 screws and stand-off spacers. Will have be able to protect the motor pulley with them too. Trying that out. I’ll update when I’m finished.
 
Take a look at these images from google. Those 3M screws and stand off spacers are what the after-market ebay kits are basically composed of. It's not rocket science, but for less than $20 I would spare my self the trial and error that's likely inevitable with ordering arbitrary sized spacers or screws.
 
I hear ya. When I looked into ordering them. It said they wouldn’t arrive until March. Probably because it coming from Israel. A little too long for me.
